Brock NoyesBiography Brock Noyes has a BA from Stanford, a MA from St. Michael's, has over twenty years experience as a practitioner/teacher of Hatha and Taoist Yoga, and is the founder of Somatic Zen. Brock has been a practicing Buddhist for 20 years, studied with Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche in the Himalayas., and has had a complimentary Taoist practice for over two decades primarily under the lineage of Master Mantax Chia. Additionally, Brock holds a Red Belt in Kouk Sun Do and a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. Mr. Noyes has been a pioneer in the field of psycho-physiology (Somatic emotional release work) and has healed "unsolvable dis-ease" in his own life through this practice. He has also taught and lived internationally, worked as an accredited Rapid Eye Therapist, taught yoga in the Oregon Prison system, and periodically teaches Hatha Yoga at Breitenbush. His forthcoming book, Joyride, can be accessed at brocknoyes.com, as well as an extensive discussion of Somatic Zen. Somatic Zen Yoga(Letting Go of What is Holding you Back) Somatic Zen was created to supplement and enhance your current yoga practice, NOT replace it, and is open to practitioners and teachers of all levels. Somatic Zen is an evolutionar paradigm that proposes that we are all systemically emotional. Trauma, fear, and stress impact in the body as constrictions which traditional yoga is not specifically designed to address. These "holdings" can show up as physical and emotional blockages in our yoga practice, and at the more extreme level, manifest in dis-ease which frequently is treated symptomatically, often without resolution. On a psycho-spiritual level, unresolved issues in our bodies create a shadow which prevents us from living in our deepest true light. In our Somatic Zen workshop we will approach Hatha Yoga as being sacred with the breath resonating with a sense of prayer. We will explore from the standpoint of Western Psycho-physiology and Traditional Taoist Science, how emotions get stored in our bodies and how we can step into freedom. In the spirit of fun (we will also be teaching the Moon Salutation (honoring women) and the Dance of Life (a gorgeous opening sequence to the day). Somatic Zen is serious work but we will not lose a sense of "play.!" Somatic Zen Yoga becomes evolutionary when we approach asana as a vehicle to specifically free stuck emotions in the body Using supportive cushions, blankets and sandbags (the weight of the sandbag replaces the contact of the hands of a somatic release therapist) practicioners recline in various asanas (depending upon the dynamics of each person) for extended holds. This is similar to Yin Yoga except the holds are far longer and the purpose is not primarily to increase flexibility in the connective tissues (which will happen but the is a secondary priority) but to contact and start to free up where deep emotional "stuff" is held in the body. When these "holdings" start to release, the body lets go of the constriction of the muscles and fascia, and we start to track back into higher levels of well being. (see brocknoyes.com) Somatic Zen Yoga is "letting go of what is holding you back." |
